  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise Lends creaminess.

  • 1 tbsp finely minced onion Enhances the flavor profile.
  • 1 tsp white vinegar Adds a touch of acidity.
  • 1 tsp sugar Balances the tartness.
  • 1/4 tsp salt Rounds off the flavors.

For Assembly

  • 4 sesame seed hamburger buns Soft and slightly nutty.
  • 8 slices cheddar cheese Melty and rich.
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce Brings freshness and crunch.
  • 1/2 cup dill pickle slices Adds crunch and bright flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the ground beef and finely chopped onion together, stirring occasionally, until the meat is browned and the onion is softened.
  • Drain the excess fat from the skillet.
  • Add ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt, and pepper to the beef mixture. Stir and simmer for 5-7 minutes until the mixture thickens.

Make the Special Sauce

  • In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, French dressing, sweet pickle relish, minced onion, white vinegar, sugar, and salt. Mix until smooth and creamy.

Assemble the Sandwiches

  • Place one slice of cheddar cheese on the bottom half of each bun.
  • Spoon a portion of the Sloppy Joe mixture on top and if desired, add another slice of cheese.
  • Top with shredded lettuce and dill pickle slices.
  • Drizzle the special sauce on top and cover with the top bun.

Notes

For a robust flavor, consider adding smoked paprika or hot sauce. Leftover filling can be used for baked potatoes or nachos. Garnish with sliced tomatoes or avocado for an extra touch.
