Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds fresh green beans Choose beautifully vibrant green beans that are crisp and snap easily.
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter The creamy, rich taste enhances the flavor of the green beans.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Helps to bring out the natural flavors.
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper Adds a subtle kick that balances the richness of the butter.

Instructions

Preparation and Steaming

  • Fill the bottom of a steamer pot with 2 to 3 inches of water and bring it to a boil over high heat.
  • Place the fresh green beans into the steamer basket, arranging them evenly for uniform cooking.
  • Cover with a lid, reduce the heat to medium-low, and steam the green beans for about 5 minutes for tender-crisp. For more tender beans, steam for 10 to 12 minutes.

Cooking

  • While the green beans are steaming, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Once the skillet is hot, add in the salted butter and let it melt, allowing it to foam slightly.
  • Transfer the steamed green beans directly into the skillet with the melted butter.
  • Season the beans with salt and black pepper to taste, and toss them gently in the buttery mixture.
  • Cook the beans for an additional 5 minutes, stirring constantly, to allow the flavors to meld together and the butter to brown slightly.
  • Serve hot and enjoy the delightful flavors!

Notes

To elevate your Buttered Green Beans, consider adding slivered almonds or a squeeze of lemon juice. Experimenting with herbs like thyme or parsley adds freshness.
