  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast The ingredient that brings your bread to life.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances the flavor of the bread.
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water Essential for activating the yeast.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Adds richness and moisture.

Optional Toppings

  • herbs, seeds, or cheese For added flavor and texture.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, mix together the flour, yeast, and salt.
  • Slowly add the warm water and olive oil, stirring until the dough begins to form.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough back in the bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Cooking

  • After the dough has risen, shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased slow cooker.
  • Cover and cook on high for 2-3 hours, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  • Carefully remove the bread from the slow cooker and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Tips for optimal results: If the dough feels too dry, add a tablespoon of warm water at a time. For a crisper crust, place the bread under a broiler for a couple of minutes after cooking. Keep an eye on cooking times as they may vary by slow cooker.
