Ingredients

For the Crab Cakes

  • 1 lb lump crab meat (drained & checked for shells) Use high-quality lump crab meat for best flavor.
  • 1/4 cup creamy mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp tangy Dijon mustard
  • 1 piece egg, beaten
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Old Bay seasoning Aromatic seasoning for enhanced flavor.
  • 1 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (Panko or regular) Use Panko for extra crunch.
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp melted butter (for brushing) For added flavor and color.
  • Salt & black pepper to taste Salt & black pepper, to taste

For the Lemon Butter Sauce

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice For the sauce.
  • 1 tsp parsley For the sauce.
  • Pinch salt For the sauce.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, gently mix the crab meat, creamy mayonnaise, tangy Dijon mustard, beaten egg, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, Old Bay seasoning, breadcrumbs, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper together. Be careful not to break the lumps of crab meat too much; you want to maintain that delightful texture.
  • Form the mixture into six thick and round crab cakes. Once shaped, refrigerate them for at least 30 minutes to help them firm up. This step is crucial for maintaining their shape while baking.
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Once heated, brush each crab cake generously with the melted butter. This adds flavor and contributes to that beautiful golden color.

Baking

  • Bake the crab cakes for 15–18 minutes or until golden brown and crisp on the outside.

Making the Sauce

  • While the crab cakes are baking, prepare the lemon butter sauce. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  • Then, stir in the freshly squeezed lemon juice, chopped parsley, and a pinch of salt. Cook just long enough for the flavors to meld together.

Serving

  • Once the crab cakes are out of the oven, serve them hot, drizzled with the luscious lemon butter sauce. Garnish with extra parsley and serve lemon wedges on the side for extra zest.

Notes

Consider using high-quality ingredients. The refrigeration step is vital for keeping the cakes intact. Explore variations with shrimp or scallops for a twist. For added spice, use cayenne or jalapeños.
