  • Gather all your ingredients on a clean countertop, ensuring your Crisco is nice and cold for the best results.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and cream of tartar.
  • Add the cold Crisco to the flour mixture, and using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the Crisco into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • In a separate small bowl, mix together the well-beaten egg and vinegar.
  • Gradually add the egg and vinegar mixture to the flour and Crisco blend, mixing gently.
  • Add the cold water a tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough just comes together. Avoid overworking the dough.
  • Divide the dough in half and shape into discs. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Once chilled, roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to your desired thickness.
