Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease an 8-inch round cake pan.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a separate bowl, cream the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.

Baking

  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Assembly

  • Once the cake is cool, slice it horizontally into two layers.
  • Spread the vanilla pudding evenly over the bottom layer, then place the top layer back on.
  • Spread the whipped heavy cream over the top of the cake.
  • Drizzle the melted chocolate chips over the whipped cream, creating a decorative pattern.
  • Refrigerate the assembled cake for at least 1 hour to allow the layers to set.
  • Slice and serve chilled.
